~ Trauma ~ Relationships ~ Communication ~ Grief and Loss
~ GLBT Issues ~ Cultural Adjustment ~ Depression & Anxiety
I have experience working with a wide variety of issues, and my specialties include:
- Clients who have had difficult and/or traumatic childhoods;
- Couples who may be having difficulties in their relationships;
- Couples who are interested in learning how to communicate more effectively so they can develop a deeper and closer relationship;
- GLBT clients who want a safe, comfortable environment to discuss the entirety of their lives; and
- People who are grappling with Grief and Loss, and/or Cultural Adjustment.
Group Therapy (Current Therapy Groups)
In addition to individual and couples therapy, I offer group therapy, which provides participants with a controlled, safe environment to interact with other people. This interaction helps people develop relationship skills, such as improved communication, and giving and receiving feedback about behaviors.
Group therapy also helps people work through family-of-origin issues by allowing them to encounter others who may share similar experiences, as well as evoke feelings reminiscent of those early experiences. This practice helps you develop a greater range of healthy coping skills to allow you to lead a healthier life.
Initial Telephone Consultation
I offer a free telephone consultation in order for us to decide whether or not to work together. Therapy is often a long-term relationship, thus it is critical to your therapeutic experience that our "fit" be a good one.
Often, people consult with a therapist because one or more of those relationships is in some kind of difficulty. Our work together is to help you identify the issues, the feelings you may be having (or not having) and take steps to move towards having the relationships with yourself and other people that are fulfilling and joyful. I do not set the agenda for you, although I will work with you to set your goals for yourself. Your work with me is your own, at your pace. I see myself as a guide and facilitator to that process. I am not a silent partner, however. I will ask questions, and I will offer suggestions at times. Sometimes, I will bring your attention to patterns or connections that I notice. They are yours to consider.
